One night i met a friend who didn’t know where the observatory was so I walked them there. Then I looked up at how pretty the stars were and decided that I was going to message all my friends and just get them to come to the pasture and dance under the stars with me. It was a very fun night.
I have friends from a lot of places. Italy, China, Korea. It’s really interesting because before I would only meet people from New York, but now I’ll talk to someone who’s like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m from North Carolina.’
My old school was very stressful. Putney drew my attention because of just how open the grades are. We don’t really see our grades. We get feedback from teachers, so you do know how you’re doing. They value communication more than anything, and I’m able to go to them with problems that I have. I’ve become a lot more open. I discuss a lot more about what I’d like and what I need, and I’ve become, more just myself multiplied by three. We’re also treated like, not adults, but we’re definitely not treated like kids.
I’m doing small animal barn this year and it’s definitely less strenuous than I thought it would be. Because I lived in the city I didn’t really get to be outside a lot. I remember when I was applying to Putney and my dad was like, ‘Well remember, you’re going to have to wake up at 6 A.M. every morning.’ It’s not like that. I do mine from 4:30 to 5:30 every day. P.M. Thank God. And then sometimes you just get to go and cuddle the sheep and it’s very nice.
I want to do all the things that I could never do at my old school. This year I’m doing Stained Glass and Botanical Printmaking. In Stained Glass, we’ve been trying to design our first actual piece, learning how to cut glass. I’m doing lady bugs. And I really liked Handcrafts last year. We made our own pocket knives. We started with a piece of sheet metal and a block of wood.
My dream at the moment is starting a little bakery in Norway or the Netherlands. I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but it sounds cute. I also like psychology and education reform. But those are vague ideas. I don’t have a specific path yet, but it’s fun to figure things out.
